Peri Urban Deer Control Plan

News | May 5, 2022

DELWP has now released the Peri-urban Deer Control Plan 2021–26 to reduce the impact of deer across the peri-urban region east and north of Melbourne. The partnership group that helped prepare the plan contained a few VDCCN members. The Plan is constructed like a decision support tool to guide investment into on-ground action based on the greatest net benefit across multiple values and land tenure.

It is the first of three region-specific plans developed to address the state’s deer control response under the Victorian Deer Control Strategy (VDCS). The plans for Eastern and Western Victoria are next off the rank and will address much larger landscapes. We hope the three plans combined will provide clear direction on where in Victoria the focus will be on feral deer prevention eradication and containment, along with asset protection.
